bookshelf for inspiration
Updated: Aug 15, 2018
For as long as I can remember I have always had a deep connection to books. Some of my most favorite memories as a child include going with my Dad to bookstores and getting to choose a new book to read. As I have grown up, it is clear that my love of learning directly relates to reading amazing books. There is no doubt I am a sucker for books that push me to think deeper and break my belief systems. I am beyond excited to share some of the books that have transformed me and helped me in more ways than I will ever be able to share.
Before I give you the titles and brief descriptions, I think it is important to note that the energy of books is real. Sometimes I have been given books and they sit on my bookshelf for days, weeks, or even years before I read them. I truly believe that books present themselves and draw you to read them when you are ready for the specific lesson it has to offer. That being said, there are also times when I start to read a book and return to it some time after. Just notice these patterns and when you get really into a book. Usually this is a calling to what you need in your life.
And now without further ado, the books you have been waiting for:
You Are a Badass: This book is a 21st century guide to living your best life. It explains some of the most important spiritual practices in plain English such as, gratitude and abundance. This is a great book for anyone who is looking for some guidance and inspiration. I included it in my holiday gift guide because it is also the perfect gift that anyone can relate to.
The Universe Has Your Back: Another one from the holiday gift guide that needs infinite recognition. This book gives you practical tips and tricks to choose love over fear. It is a guide that allows you to recognize thought patterns that have trapped you into a low energy life. My favorite part of this book is the daily mantras and meditations Gabby Bernstein offers in each chapter.
The Power of Now: This is the first book I read that helped me understand the power of the present moment and how often we live in the past and future. It is an amazing resource that will give you the power to separate from your ego and experience true happiness. The way Eckhart Tolle describes the present moment and gives you real words of wisdom is inspiring and will set your soul on fire.
The Untethered Soul: Free yourself from limitations and and move beyond your boundaries. This is another amazing book that helps you recognize habitual thoughts and the emotions they evoke in order to move to a deeper level of consciousness. Michael Singer is a powerful author who comes from a business background and wrote the book in the middle of a fraud lawsuit! It teaches you how to be your best self even during the darkest times.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali: This is probably the most dense read on my list. It is the threads that connect and create the yoga practice. If you are looking for an understanding of yoga past the physical movement, this is your book. It is a series of spiritual guidelines passed down for thousands of years to any yogi brave enough to be on the spiritual path. I love to pick this book up for inspiration and guidance regularly.
The Book of Joy: I gave this book out as a holiday gift to anyone I could last year after being gifted it myself. Being raised catholic, I am always trying to understand religions and the ties that are undeniably threaded throughout the beliefs. This book inspired me to see that the most present thread is joy. We all seek it, need it, and thrive when immersed in a state of joy. The book highlights a week of intellectual conversations between two of the most influential religious leaders of our time, the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
