When I first got into yoga, I saw crystals all the time and thought they were weird. Like, way too out there, why the heck are there rocks on your yoga mat, weird. And if you told me back then that I would be writing this post on the magic of crystals and how to start incorporating them into your life, I would call you crazy. Yet here I am giving you tools for what worked for me and admitting that I am more and more passionate about using crystals and giving them to anyone and everyone I meet.
That being said, if you have not gotten into crystals yet or don’t know where to start I am here to tell you my journey into the mythical crystal world.
Honestly, it’s really not weird at all, it’s kinda fun.
I started looking into crystals and gemstones when I started using and making mala necklaces and bracelets. There was so much information out there on the internet and in books, there had to be some truth to it I thought. And not for nothing, using crystals has been around for thousands of years. Even the beautiful Cleopatra was using them to aid her in her daily life. What I found was that people who use them are passionate and reap the benefits of what each stone has to offer and those who don’t understand it, really doubt it. So, here is what I know and have discovered. When I use crystals, my life is more meaningful, my intentions are more purposeful, I feel more at peace, and they give me a visual reminder or check in on days when I feel like I’m losing my mind.
When I decided to start, I chose a few crystals that resonated with areas in my life I needed support in and carried them around with me. These days I choose my “stone of the day” based on my intuition in the morning, cleanse it with sage and palo santo, meditate with it in my hand, and carry it around in my pocket or rest it on my desk at work. The ritual is grounding and comforting. Through this journey I now know and acknowledge the power or crystals and it is more than obvious I was insecure and avoiding the unknown… thank goodness!
Here are a few of my tried and true stones:
Aquamarine (courage): Aids in calming the mind and speaking your truth. Encourages clear communication without judgement or confusion.
Rose quartz (love): self love, unconditional love, heart chakra. Helps raise self-esteem and balance emotions. Purifies and opens the heart while bringing deep inner healing to develop self-love.
Citrine (happiness & abundance): Attracts wealth and prosperity. Protects against negativity and raises self-esteem and self-confidence. Brings energy, joy, and inspires you to achieve your goals.
Amethyst (stability & calm): Calms or stimulates the mind, as needed. Aids in focus and allows you to connect thoughts through cause and effect. One of the most spiritual stones which increase or inspires spirituality.
Clear quartz (energy & clarity): Most powerful healing and energy amplifier. Known to raise energy to the highest level and absorb, store, release, and regulate any energy it comes in contact with. Promotes clarity, insight, and wisdom.
One last note about crystals: you need to cleanse them.
When you work with crystals, they hold on to just about everything you are feeling or how those around you are feeling. In order to reset the stone and release anything negative, cleanse and recharge the stone in one of the following ways:
Set crystals in full moon light. It is said that leaving it in the window sill for 24 hours to experience both moon and sun energy is very beneficial, especially on full moon nights.
Burning sage has been used for many years to clear out old energy from homes, spaces, and in this case crystals. Simply burn sage and let the crystal sit near the sage smoke. I like to burn sage and hold the crystal above the smoke for a minute or so.
Burning palo santo and using it the same way as sage can also help cleanse the crystal. It is also very beneficial to use palo santo smoke after sage because it invites new energy in after cleansing the old energy out with sage.
Use other crystals, such as clear quartz. Add a cleansing crystal (for example clear quartz) to your bag or pocket when you are carrying around your crystal.
The force is with you… enjoy your journey.
