get your day started: breakfast edition

We have heard it a million times: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But why? Why is breakfast so important? Here are some of the reasons we need breakfast:
A more complete diet: you will get an extra serving of fruits, healthy fats, etc. when you eat a breakfast of substance.
Improved concentration from the nutrients in your breakfast: I know when I don’t eat breakfast, my brain fog is high and it is nearly impossible for me to focus. Your brain needs food to work properly, end of story.
Jump start your day in a fun way: There are so many options these days for delicious breakfasts that are quick, easy, and affordable. I know when I am trying new recipes or enjoying some of my go-to’s I look forward to breakfast and starts the day on a good note. Have fun with it!
I love making oatmeal the night before and dressing it up. It is so easy for grab-and-go food in the AM. I have recently been enjoying Purely Elizabeth Original Superfood Oatmeal. It takes minutes to make and has tons of good stuff in it (quinoa, flax, hemp, chia). My favorites to top it with are almond butter, berries, and granola!
It is the latest breakfast trend and can be made in so many ways! I plan on making a post all about toast but for now, here are two ways I dress it up:
Sweet: nut butter, fruit, granola
Savory: ghee, smashed avocado, fried egg (salt, pepper, red pepper flakes)
There are so many hacks and resources online for fast smoothie making. I know many people will fill ziplock bags with the ingredients they need (frozen berries, veggies, nuts) and just add liquid before blending. For me, I like to mix it up depending on how I feel in the morning. Check out my go-to smoothie bowl here. Another breakfast option that is so versatile depending on the mood you are in!
